Job Summary
Lab Chemist responsibilities include performing analytical, microbiological, and quality-system procedures in a Food Safety Laboratory, maintaining ISO records for process control, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety requirements. The role requires completing initial proficiency testing with annual competency verification, contributing to data collection and documentation, and supporting training and ongoing proficiency growth. The position emphasizes precision, accuracy, and adherence to safety standards, with potential for additional duties as needed. Education requirements begin with a high school diploma or equivalent, with biology/microbiology/chemistry/food science or physical sciences coursework or degrees preferred; laboratory experience and strong communication skills are advantageous. The role operates on 1st shift and is based in the Tyson Foods Cumming, GA lab site.
Required Qualifications
- Education: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- College-level coursework or a degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, and/or Physical Sciences is preferred.
- Experience: Laboratory experience is preferred.
- Computer Skills: General knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with a meal break; must be physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
