Job Summary
Receive and process laboratory requisitions and specimens while ordering specified tests according to standard operating procedures. Respond to phone requests and enter lab test data into the computer system. Maintain absolute confidentiality in handling patient information and ensure accuracy in the patient identification process. Work in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment requiring frequent prioritization and task switching. Maintain flexibility regarding shift end times based on workload.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- MLA certification from a nationally recognized credentialing agency (i.e. ASCP or AMT)
- Previous work experience
- Keyboarding experience, 40 wpm
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced, customer service oriented environment
- Ability to prioritize and change tasks frequently and quickly
- Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality in the handling of patient information
- Ability to work in a high stress environment with little/no downtime
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Absolute integrity and accuracy in patient identification process
- Flexibility related to the end of shift
Desired Qualifications
- Associates Degree with a minimum of 6 semester hours of chemistry and 6 semester hours of biology
- MLA certification from a nationally recognized credentialing agency (i.e. ASCP or AMT)
