Job Summary
Collect laboratory specimens and perform routine phlebotomy procedures for inpatients, outpatients, and physicians while maintaining patient safety and comfort. Accurately order, fax, and document test orders and verbal orders in the LIS system, ensuring correct account selection and medical necessity codes. Process esoteric lab testing, send out reference specimens, and manage daily periodic maintenance duties including stocking supplies and keeping draw areas clean. Communicate critical lab values and adverse reactions to providers, handle conflict situations, and triage workload to complete procedures within the scheduled shift. Requires prior phlebotomy experience, strong communication skills, and ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to communicate & work well with physician & staff
- Must have strong verbal & written communication skills
- Able to perform phlebotomy
- Able to operate office equipment, i.e. computers, phones, fax & copy machine
- Constant manual dexterity & use of hands
- Frequent walking, standing, talking & occasional sitting, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling & reaching
- Frequently may need to lift up to 25 lbs
- 50 lbs on occasion
Desired Qualifications
- Prior phlebotomy experience preferred
