Job Summary
Lab Assistant Trainee at Ochsner Health performing diverse laboratory tasks to support the department, including phlebotomy, specimen receiving and processing into the LIS, centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, and distribution to test sites. May perform waived and moderately complex procedures, maintain equipment, and execute quality control. Requires high school diploma or equivalent; formal phlebotomy training preferred. Certifications: State Board application submitted within 90 days and Louisiana license application submitted within 180 days. Strong data-entry skills, proficiency with Windows applications, and excellent communication. Must meet turnaround time goals, follow protocols, and participate in competency and annual training requirements. This is a full-time, on-site role in Kenner, LA with weekend/night shifts; remote work is not available for this location. Ochsner Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Proof of application to the State Board as a Laboratory Assistant Trainee or Laboratory Assistant must be acquired and submitted within 90 days from date of hire
- Louisiana License as a Laboratory Assistant or Laboratory Assistant Trainee must be acquired and submitted within 180 days from date of hire
- Preferred - Formal phlebotomy training
- No prior work experience required (May have preferred 1 year hospital-based phlebotomy experience)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieving patient information
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to perform specimen collection and waived testing
- Adherence to department protocols and turnaround time goals
- Compliance with regulatory and safety standards
