Job Summary
Evening-shift Lab Assistant at Ochsner Health performing laboratory functions to support the department, including phlebotomy, specimen receipt and processing into the LIS, centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling and distribution of specimens to test sites, and performing waived and moderately complex procedures with quality control. Requires data entry and computer skills, proficiency with Windows-based software, effective communication, and the ability to work in a controlled environment handling potentially biohazardous materials. Education required: high school diploma or equivalent; phlebotomy training preferred, with licensing as Laboratory Assistant or Laboratory Assistant Trainee in the state of practice and Louisiana licensure to be obtained within 180 days of hire. Must be able to perform duties in a hospital/phlebotomy setting and adhere to safety and privacy standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Formal phlebotomy training (preferred)
- Current License as a Laboratory Assistant or Laboratory Assistant Trainee in the state of practice
- Louisiana License as a Laboratory Assistant must be acquired and submitted within 180 days from date of hire
- Experience in a controlled environment handling chemicals and body fluids
- Data entry and computer skills
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and laboratory software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage stress
- Ability to read and perform basic math calculations
