Job Summary
Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients using skillful venipuncture techniques, sort and steer specimens, and perform ECGs, Holter hookups, and urine, drug, and breath alcohol collections. Accurately enter patient and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions while ensuring all supporting documentation meets SOPs for data entry and transportation. Maintain quality metrics and regulatory compliance by keeping confidential information secure and displaying empathy during stressful patient interactions. Work day shifts Monday through Friday from 6:45 am to 5:30 pm, with half days on Saturdays, in an on-site medical laboratory environment in Ottawa.
Required Qualifications
- Secondary School
- Laboratory Assistant training program
- Medical Lab Assistance course
- specialized training in phlebotomy

- skill in phlebotomy
- ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
- Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
- Be extremely detail oriented
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
- May be required to lift a maximum of 30 pounds
