Job Summary
Perform wet chemistry testing on oil and related samples following established methods and SOPs, including sample preparation, reagent handling, and instrument operation for Gas Chromatography, CHNS elemental analysis, and Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Record, analyze, and interpret test results to ensure data integrity, compile test reports using Microsoft Office, and troubleshoot basic instrument issues while escalating complex problems. Adhere to laboratory safety procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements, supporting general housekeeping, inventory management, and calibration activities. This contract role offers consistent weekday hours, pays $33 per hour, and requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with proven experience in wet chemistry techniques and oil sample testing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
- Proven laboratory experience in a professional or academic setting involving wet chemistry techniques
- Hands-on experience handling and testing oil samples in a lab environment
- Demonstrated experience operating Gas Chromatography (GC) systems
- Experience performing CHNS elemental analysis and interpreting results
- Experience using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) for materials or oil-related analyses
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting
- Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to follow written procedures accurately
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for documenting work and collaborating with technical teams
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related scientific field
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline
- Relevant laboratory internships, co-op placements, or prior industry lab roles
- Experience working in an industrial, petrochemical, or oil and gas laboratory environment
- Familiarity with LIMS or other electronic data management systems
