Job Summary
Senior Assessment Team Lead – Criminal role leading a team of Criminal Assessment Lawyers in Edmonton. Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring direct reports, leading team and leadership meetings, driving performance management and annual reviews, ensuring consistent application of policies and tariffs, providing expert criminal law guidance on eligibility, coverage, and case management, reviewing and deciding on certificate requests within financial parameters, drafting merit opinions, advising staff on tariffs and assessment issues, contributing to staff education, developing and maintaining assessment tools and documentation, and analyzing data to identify trends and opportunities. Requires a Law Degree, licensure in good standing in Alberta, minimum 5 years of criminal practice, appellate experience, strong advocacy, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a high-stress, collaborative environment.
Required Qualifications
- Law Degree from a recognized law school
- Member in good standing in the Law Society of Alberta
- Minimum of 5 years of practising law with an emphasis on criminal law
- Experience in the Court of Appeal is required
- Experience in the Supreme Court of Canada is considered an asset
- Knowledge of databases and case management software
- Strong criminal law knowledge and related processes
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
