Job Summary
Direct Support Professional provides non-clinical assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and community settings. Responsible for implementing individual service plans, assisting with socialization, health maintenance, medication administration, and activities of daily living (personal care, housekeeping, transportation, community integration, shopping, and finance management). Documents progress and maintains confidentiality, supports budgeting within individualized plans, and maintains professional relationships with individuals, families, guardians, and case managers. May accompany individuals to medical appointments, monitor health, and respond to emergencies following safety policies. Requires ability to drive or transport as needed, adherence to training and safety protocols, and commitment to teamwork in a home and community-based care environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Six months of experience in human services preferred
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- All state-required trainings and certifications completed in mandated timeframes
- Maintain valid driver’s license and insurance requirements
- Shall be at least 18 years of age
- Drug testing prior to employment and random testing
- Criminal background checks and registry checks for development disabilities
- Able to perform physical tasks as required by role
