Job Summary
Korean Reviewer/Editor/Certifier to support the Department of Justice Linguistic Support Services (LSS). The role involves translating, transcribing, and interpreting a variety of materials, including documents, audio/video media, and court or deposition content. Expect handling materials across medical, scientific, financial, historical, geographical, and military terminology; maintain confidentiality for sensitive material; produce factually accurate translations that preserve tone and register; utilize CAT tools (notably SDL Trados Studio); and ensure linguistic quality for materials used in legal contexts. Requirements include at least five years of experience in the required language with strong English editing, ILR 4 minimum or equivalent, U.S. residency in the last 5 years (3 of 5), minimum one year in a law enforcement or legal setting, U.S. citizenship, proficiency in English and target language vocabularies across formal and informal contexts, and eligibility for Active Public Trust or higher clearance. The position is part-time with flexible work arrangements including Remote, National Capital Region, and various CONUS locations, and may involve some travel. Confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards in translation are mandatory.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior English and editing skills
- Qualifying ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- At least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Bilingual capabilities in English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, and casual contexts
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to government missions
- Fluent writing in native language with professional command of the non-native language
- Accurate translation preserving tone and register
- Adherence to linguist ethics
- Proficiency with CAT tools, especially SDL Trados Studio
- Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
