Kitchen Equipment Repair Technician

Job Summary

Maintain, diagnose, and repair major kitchen appliances including ovens, fryers, and refrigeration units across campus dining facilities. Perform routine preventative maintenance such as cleaning coils, changing filters, and troubleshooting electrical, plumbing, and gas systems. Measure, cut, and solder copper pipes up to 2 inches, unsink sewer lines, and order necessary repair parts while maintaining service logs. Submit daily reports on work completed, materials used, and time spent. Work evenings and weekends as needed, rotating on-call schedules. Requires valid driver's license, EPA certification, and ability to work in extreme temperatures and hazardous environments.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years of direct work experience as an equipment repair technician
  • Successful completion of a trade school program
  • Universal EPA Certification
  • Favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Valid driver's license
  • Motor vehicle liability insurance
  • Personal injury insurance
  • Completion of the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date
  • Ability to demonstrate basic skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Ability to use common office equipment to include: computer, copier, and Ipad
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English
  • Ability to read written instructions, warning labels, SDS Sheets in English
  • Ability to understand blueprints and technical drawings
  • Legible handwriting
  • Eyesight in both eyes corrected to 20/20
  • Normal hearing ability (may be corrected)
  • Successful pass of a PIPIC test for color blindness
  • Mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in order to compute material costs
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Good judgment when providing customer service
  • Ability to observe safety precautions when working in the presence of extreme noise, mechanical, electrical, and other hazardous situations
  • Ability to carry 50 pounds up and down stairs
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Completion of CFESA certification
  • Other trade program
