Job Summary
Assist with meal preparation, cooking, portioning, and serving food, while packaging and delivering meals as needed. Clean and sanitize pots, pans, cooking utensils, trays, kitchen equipment, dining areas, and food storage zones. Empty waste baskets and garbage cans, and assume janitorial duties for other center areas when a janitor is absent. Receive, unpack, store, and label food and supplies according to funder mandates. Record temperatures of meals, refrigerators, and freezers to ensure compliance with NYC and NYS Department of Health and Mental Hygiene standards. Maintain the kitchen and highly used areas in strict accordance with established policies. Attend mandatory in-service trainings and perform other tasks as directed by the Food Service Manager or First Cook.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- prior experience in a kitchen position
- Ability to lift heavy objects – up to 50lbs
- Work with clients who are 60 or older
- Work may be conducted either inside or outside of the center where needed
- Walking, climbing, standing, and lifting are required
- Coverage and/or travel from one local site to another
