Job Summary
Kinyarwanda Reviewer/Editor/Certifier needed to support the DOJ Linguistic Support Services. Tasks include translation of documents and media content (written, electronic, audio, and video) and ancillary services such as court and deposition interpretation. Materials cover legal, medical, scientific, financial, historical, geographical, and military terminology across varied formats. All material is sensitive and requires strict confidentiality. Candidates must have strong English skills, ILR 4 or equivalent, five+ years of language experience, U.S. residency history, U.S. citizenship, CAT tool proficiency (SDL Trados Studio), and a security clearance (Public Trust or higher). Travel may be required; work is remote with potential NCR/CONUS locations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior English and editing skills
- ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive)
- At least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- U.S. citizen
- Bilingual proficiency in English and target language with formal, diplomatic, and casual contexts including slang and regionalisms
- Specialized vocabulary in English and target language related to government missions; ability to use translation resources and reference materials
- Fluent writing in native language while maintaining professional command of non-native language
- Translate accurately without changes or omissions; preserve tone and register
- Adhere to relevant codes of linguist ethics
- Proficient in using CAT tools, with emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capitol Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Some travel may be required
