Job Summary
Provide special education instruction and support for learning activities to help students fulfill intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons to match student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned. Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs; implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs; assess learning styles; employ varied instructional techniques and use technology to meet each student’s needs; supervise instructional aides/volunteers; participate in IEP meetings; establish and maintain open communication with families and colleagues; ensure student safety and compliance with district policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid Tennessee teaching license
- Applicable Special Education endorsement
- Experience: Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
- Knowledge of IEP goal setting process and implementation
- Knowledge of adapting curriculum for special needs
- Effective communication skills
