Job Summary
Supervise students individually or in group settings under the direction of professional staff. Work with young people to maintain positive relationships while effectively overseeing indoor and outdoor classroom activities. Frequently stand, walk, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds to handle curriculum materials, desks, and carts. Communicate orally and in writing to support the classroom environment. This role requires flexibility in working with teachers and the ability to work independently. The Cedar Rapids Community School District offers this position as part of its commitment to early childhood education.
Required Qualifications
- Two year post secondary education or Paraeducator certificate or qualifying score on NCRC assessment test
- Willingness to assume responsibility
- Ability to work well with others
- Flexibility in working with classroom teachers
- Ability to work independently
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Enjoy working with young people
- Ability to effectively supervise students while maintaining a positive relationship with them

- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 to 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet
- Ability to sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts

- Ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.
