Job Summary
Part-time adjunct faculty member to teach a Spanish for the Health Professions elective in Kirksville, MO. Responsibilities include managing online learning modules, recruiting students, planning ongoing course development and sustainability, conducting approximately 10 one-hour live conversations per quarter, completing student performance assessments and grading, providing quarterly reports to the AHEC office, developing pilot course content, and guiding program expansion. Requires a Bachelor's degree with related Spanish studies, 3–5 years of related experience, and college-level teaching experience with interactive/classroom and simulation activities. Proficiency with Spanish relevant to medical contexts, medical vocabulary, and patient-provider encounters; strong organizational and communication skills; and computer skills including Canvas and Zoom.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree plus post-graduate studies in Spanish-related major
- Three to five years related experience
- Experience conducting college-level courses
- Intimate knowledge of Spanish as it relates to the medical/dental and healthcare environment
- Knowledge of anatomical/environmental terms used in the patient-provider encounter
- Relate to medical/dental students as well as standardized patients in Spanish
- Provide an overview of Spanish grammar, an introduction to the medical/dental vocabulary in Spanish, together with a development of cultural awareness in the students
- Assist students to practice everyday situations that might be encountered in the typical medical/dental encounter where an accurate understanding of the patient's complaint is required
- Manage classroom and text/online Spanish for the Health Professions teaching/learning resources as appropriate
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal skills
- Computer skills including Learning Management Systems (Canvas) and Zoom
