Job Summary
Regional Lead – Rail Engineer at Horrocks who will provide regional leadership for railroad projects, lead the design and delivery of diverse rail projects (including track, terminals, yards, and at-grade/grade-separated structures), manage client relationships, contribute to business development and proposal activities, mentor engineers and junior staff, enforce QA/QC procedures, collaborate with project managers on staffing and resource planning, ensure regulatory compliance across multiple states, and travel regionally for site visits and industry events. The ideal candidate has a BE/CE degree, 10+ years of rail/railroad infrastructure experience, a PE license, proven leadership of multidisciplinary rail projects, proficiency with CAD and standard engineering software, strong communication and leadership skills, and willingness to travel.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, and transportation / land development engineering projects
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships
- Strong understanding of design standards for track, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings
- Experience mentoring technical staff and leading engineering teams across multiple projects or offices preferred
- Understanding of CAD platforms and standard engineering software applications
- Strong business development, communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to effectively collaborate with railroad staff, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative and team culture
- Willingness to travel regionally as needed to support project delivery and client engagement
