Job Summary
Kaiwhakamana (Advocate) role for VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai to champion voices of care-experienced tamariki and rangatahi across Te Waipounamu. Based in Dunedin with regular regional travel, the role focuses on building relationships with young people, supporting tūhono events, and engaging partners to ensure voices are heard and valued. Travel to homes and residences is expected, including potential overnights. Travel, event planning, and collaboration with a regional team are key aspects, with a strong emphasis on tikanga Māori and care-sector advocacy.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with children and young people aged 0–25, ideally within the social services, youth development, education, health, or community sector
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with young people and with providers/agencies across the region
- Experience working in secure residences or multidisciplinary environments with youth development/participation and knowledge of child protection legislation and practices
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team with strong time management and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and administrative skills
- Proficiency in event and activity planning and group facilitation to deliver opportunities for youth engagement
- Strong understanding of tikanga Māori and comfort working with people with disabilities
- A full clean driver’s license is essential
- Ability to obtain Children’s Worker clearance (two forms of identification required) and undergo vetting
- Flexibility and availability for regional travel, including overnight stays
