Job Summary
K9 Handler for an Armed Canine Detection program in the Atlanta, GA area, requiring single and/or dual-purpose canine-handler certifications and 3+ years of law-enforcement or military canine handling experience. Responsibilities include maintaining required certifications, caring for and training the canine, maintaining training and utilization records, driving, operating in an armed capacity, and complying with firearms qualifications. The role requires readiness for incident/emergency response, standby duty, and client demonstrations (including weekends, holidays, nights, and overnights), as well as housing the canine at the handler’s residence and providing a secure outdoor area. Must pass fitness assessments (lifting up to 90 pounds, running, climbing, squatting) and meet all program policies. Location: Fort Washington, PA and Atlanta area, United States.
Required Qualifications
- Single purpose canine handler certificate or possess the ability to obtain same prior to commencing work
- Dual purpose canine handler certificate or possess the ability to obtain same prior to commencing work
- Three (3) or more years law enforcement canine handling experience, or three (3) or more years military canine handling experience or similarly documented substantially similar experience acquired elsewhere
- Expressed willingness to remain with the program for at least three years
- Expressed willingness to care for and house the canine at the handler’s residence in accord with all Andy Frain policies and procedures
- Provide a secure outdoor area for the canine that conforms to Andy Frain policies and procedures
- Strong desire to work with canines and train the animal
- Physical fitness abilities related to the tasks of canine handling: lifting, carrying, climbing, and balancing while bearing the combined weight of the canine and any necessary equipment
- Must demonstrate overall fitness abilities consistent with strength, endurance, and cardiopulmonary capacities required of newly certified officers
- Must maintain annual canine certifications
- Must have valid driver’s licenses and clear driving record for last three years
- Must maintain company assigned vehicle
- Must strictly comply with and maintain all instruction and licensing required for firearms
