Job Summary
Armed K9 handler for the K9 Detection program in the Atlanta, GA area. Responsibilities include incident/emergency response duty, standby duty, and client demonstrations, with weekend, holiday, night, and overnight coverage. Requires canine handling certifications (single or dual purpose) prior to commencing work, plus three+ years of law enforcement or military canine handling experience. Duties include health, welfare, and maintenance of the canine, maintaining training and utilization records, annual canine certifications, and compliance with firearms training and department qualifications. Must maintain assigned vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license, and meet fitness requirements (lifting up to 90 pounds, walking, climbing, kneeling, running). Supervisory and relocation considerations may apply per policy; residence housing for the canine may be required at the handler’s home. The program emphasizes security duties, training, and demonstrations for clients.
Required Qualifications
- Single purpose canine handler certificate or ability to obtain same prior to commencing work.
- Dual purpose canine handler certificate or possess the ability to obtain same prior to commencing work.
- Three (3) or more years law enforcement canine handling experience, or three (3) or more years military canine handling experience or similarly documented substantially similar experience acquired elsewhere.
