Job Summary
Armed K9 Handler position in the K9 Detection program. Full-time role based in the Atlanta, GA area with duties including certification maintenance (single and dual purpose canine handler certificates), canine care and welfare, health and training records, and compliance with firearms policies. Requires strong physical fitness to lift/carry up to 90 pounds, long periods of walking, climbing and kneeling, and ability to work weekends, holidays, nights, and overnights. Candidate must have relevant certifications, 3+ years in law enforcement or military canine handling, and willingness to commit for at least three years. Must provide secure residence space for a working dog and housing kennel compliance; must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and operate company vehicles per policy.
Required Qualifications
- Single purpose canine handler certificate or ability to obtain prior to commencing work
- Dual purpose canine handler certificate or ability to obtain prior to commencing work
- Three (3) or more years law enforcement canine handling experience, or three (3) or more years military canine handling experience or similarly documented substantially similar experience
- Expressed willingness to remain with the program for at least three years
- Expressed willingness to care for and house the canine at the handler’s residence in accord with company policies
- Provide a secure outdoor area for the canine
- Possess a strong desire to work with canines and a willingness to care for and train the animal
- Demonstrate physical fitness abilities related to tasks of canine handling (lifting, carrying, climbing, balancing with canine and equipment)
- Must have valid driver’s licenses and clear driving record for last three years
- Must maintain company-assigned vehicle
- Must pass firearms training and department qualification for carrying on duty
