Job Summary
Select and organize print and non-print materials to enrich the curriculum, maintaining the card catalog and inventorying resources periodically. Provide instruction in library skills and individual assistance to students conducting research, while developing bibliographies and encouraging lifelong reading habits. Coordinate audio-visual equipment use and maintenance within budgetary limits, and perform minor book repairs or forward items needing major repairs to the bindery. Maintain the library as a center of learning activities by informing staff and students of new material arrivals and adhering to the school's climate-controlled environment policy. Serve as a resource to administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community by representing the school system at public functions and participating in staff development.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
- School Librarian Certification
- A certified librarian must be able to communicate in standard English both orally and in writing
- Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via tele-communication system
- Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with the public
- Must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information and provide written report to supervisor
- Must have ability to represent school system at various public functions
- Must be able to operate all library equipment
- Reaching, bending, lifting 10 pounds is sometimes required as well as the physical restraint of another person or persons
- Ability to provide own transportation to school, work location(s) and meeting sites
- Must be able to plan and implement appropriate education programs for all students
- Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions
- Must keep accurate, up-to-date library records
- Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations
- Must be able to utilize effective classroom anagement techniques
- Must be able to work compatibly in group settings
- Must serve as a resource to administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and community
- Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement
- Must be able to effectively lead and coach others
