Job Summary
Deliver engaging, standards-based visual arts instruction to students in Kindergarten through Grade 8, implementing the Core Knowledge Sequence curriculum. Plan lessons with clear objectives that develop artistic techniques, creativity, and art history appreciation while demonstrating methods through instructional models. Assess student learning via projects, portfolios, and formative/summative evaluations, then prepare progress reports and report cards. Foster a respectful classroom environment using the school's behavior management model and maintain a safe, organized space with proper care of art supplies. Collaborate regularly with Specials teachers, administrators, and classroom teachers to support interdisciplinary learning. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school-wide initiatives as assigned by the Assistant Director.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Art, Art Education, or a related field
- Massachusetts teaching license in Visual Arts or eligibility for licensure
- Successful completion of applicable MTEL examinations within one year of employment
- Strong knowledge of visual arts techniques, art history, and age-appropriate instructional practices
- Excellent classroom management, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to design engaging lessons that meet the diverse needs of learners
- Ability to assess student progress and use data to guide instruction
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with students, families, colleagues, and administrators
- Commitment to maintaining high academic expectations and fostering a positive, structured learning environment
