Job Summary
Facilitate small group instruction to assist students in reaching IEP goals while teaching and reinforcing academic content. Maintain accurate records of student information and manage classroom logistics, including prepping materials, beautification, and maintenance. Support behavioral management by de-escalating challenging behaviors and ensure student safety during in-classroom and out-of-classroom supervision, including fire drills, lunch, and recess duties. Collaborate with families and staff to support student learning and provide administrative task-based support for teachers and operations. This full-time twelve-month position requires Teaching Assistant Certification and a Bachelor's degree preferred, with a focus on culturally responsive pedagogy within a team environment serving over 1,200 scholars across three Far Rockaway sites.
Required Qualifications
- Teaching Assistant Certification required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Dedicated to working in communities that have historically been underserved and under-resourced
- Committed to thoughtfully engaging in identity work necessary to take a culturally responsive approach to pedagogy and relationship-building with students and colleagues
- You possess an exceptional level of patience and focus to overcome challenges and achieve results
- Strong classroom management skills: You can set high expectations in the classroom and keep scholars engaged
- Classroom presence: You are clear and precise when sharing new content with students and can effectively lead students through inquiry-based class discussions
