Job Summary
Conduct individual skill coaching to build student discipline, sportsmanship, and self-esteem. Plan and schedule regular season practice programs while overseeing facility safety during all student presence. Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior, establishing penalties for breaches of standards. Maintain accurate season statistics, records, and results. Adhere to injury prevention protocols and follow-up procedures. Establish and consistently apply performance criteria for interscholastic eligibility. Communicate with parents and the public through school and media channels. Manage equipment, supplies, and uniform purchases. Maintain attendance forms, insurance records, and necessary paperwork. Work closely with the athletic director to schedule contests.
Required Qualifications
- Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate, if applicable
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before administrators, staff, parents and students
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

- Must be able to work closely with the athletics director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests
- Must be able to recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms
- Must be able to maintain necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork
- Must be able to account for all equipment or delegate the responsibility
- Must be able to develop a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the athletic program
- Must be able to supervise students of particular program
- Must be able to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws
- Must be reliable, responsible and dependable and fulfill obligations
- Must be able to perform each essential duty in a pleasant, professional, efficient manner
