Job Summary
JUVENILE JUSTICE DETENTION OFF SUPV - SE role overseeing detention operations at a Secure Juvenile Detention Center. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe, secure environment for youth and staff, enforcing zero-tolerance policies for abuse and safety violations, supervising staff and youth, conducting admissions/releases/transport operations, conducting checks and monitoring youth, providing counseling directives, writing incident reports, ensuring compliance with court orders and DJJ policies, coordinating medical/mental health considerations, and completing required training and certifications (including CPR/AED/First Aid). The position requires leading by example, ensuring lawful and humane treatment of detained youth, and maintaining documentation and records of incidents, movements, and violations. Required duties include supervising staff, managing security equipment, coordinating with medical and legal entities, and ensuring staff adhere to policies and procedures. Knowledge and abilities include communication, math for records, understanding of facility policies, force assessment, youth behavior observation, and hygiene. Special notes include background checks, E-Verify participation, driver license requirements, and mandatory training within specified timelines.
Required Qualifications
- high school diploma or equivalent
- valid driver license
- ability to communicate in writing and orally
- ability to perform routine safety and security duties
- training and certification in direct care policy and safety procedures
- successful completion of required DJJ Direct Care Training Policy or ability to obtain within 180 days
- ability to transport/deliver youth to appropriate facilities as needed
- ability to document incidents and prepare reports
- knowledge of policies and procedures governing facility operations
- ability to supervise and coach staff and youth
- compliance with background checks and pre-employment screenings
- capability to maintain safety and security in accordance with state statutes
Additional Requirements
- must be at least 19 years old
- high school graduate or equivalent
- no felony or disqualifying misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement
