Job Summary
Conduct security supervision of juveniles at the Detention Center, ensuring compliance with policies, monitoring facility access via video and electronic doors, and maintaining resident safety and discipline. Process residents for entry and exit, obtain fingerprints, file detailed records, and enter data into computer systems. Execute comprehensive duties including conducting orientation, counseling, administering medications, leading fire drills, and performing facility maintenance, cleaning, and meal preparation. Make rounds to assess resident behavior, inspect locks, conduct searches for contraband, and take necessary actions to prevent disturbances or escapes.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience working with youth
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Some knowledge of proper methods of care and management of delinquent and dependent children
- Knowledge of juvenile detention regulations, practices and procedures
- Knowledge of basic security methods and procedures
- Knowledge of judicial system and legal processes
- Knowledge of basic counseling and discipline methods and procedures
- Knowledge of youth educational programs processes
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to read, interpret and apply complex written policies, procedures, laws, and regulations governing the operation of juvenile detention facilities
- Ability to understand and follow detailed verbal instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with residents from culturally diverse groups and their families
- Ability to prepare and maintain detailed and accurate records
- Ability to operate video equipment, computer terminals and electronic locks
- Ability to restrain physically violent residents
- Ability to react quickly and appropriately to unusual or unexpected situations under conditions of stress
- Idaho P.O.S.T. certification as a Juvenile Detention Officer
- Valid Idaho State Drivers License
- Age of 21 years or older
- Willingness to work rotating shifts
- Availability on call
- Ability to pass drug/alcohol testing
- Ability to undergo a thorough pre-employment background investigation
- No significant criminal record as confirmed by NCIC check
- Ability to meet physical fitness requirements
- Certification in First Aid and CPR
