Job Summary
Juvenile Custody Services Specialist responsible for guidance, supervision, security, safety and general care of detained youth, including conducting behavior observations, preparing incident reports, assisting with intake, securing personal belongings, supporting restorative justice and pro-social development, supervising volunteers, and responding to crises. The role emphasizes documentation, record-keeping, and detailed daily reporting, with duties spanning facilitation of skill-building activities, de-escalation, and adherence to facility rules. Works in a 24/7 detention environment with the need to work varied shifts, including overnight, weekends, and holidays; requires ability to intervene physically if necessary and to navigate high-tension situations.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent with major coursework in child psychology, sociology, or a related field
- Two (2) years of responsible experience working with at-risk youth (12-18) in Detention or youth correctional facility, Youth residential setting, or setting that provides programming for at-risk youth
- Successful completion of a battery of psychological tests / psychological evaluation
