Job Summary

Juvenile Corrections Officer positions responsible for maintaining safety and security of juvenile offenders and staff, supervising offenders’ conduct and activities, and promoting accountability and reintegration through counseling and treatment-focused supervision. Duties include supervising youth with empathy, communicating progress to families and treatment staff, using crisis intervention/de-escalation techniques, transporting youth as needed, coordinating with health and rehabilitation partners, filing and archiving records, handling confidential information, operating Word/Access/Outlook and Spillman Flex systems, working overtime/on-call, and complying with training, licensing, and uniform requirements. Must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends/holidays and pass background, drug, and fitness screenings; maintain CPR/First Aid and Food Handler cards; and possess a valid WA driver’s license.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two years of office work experience
  • Pre-employment fitness for duty assessment
  • Pre-employment Basic Skills-Written test
  • Upon request, provide documentation of attendance and punctuality
  • Must have no criminal convictions that include felony or misdemeanor offenses in Tribal, State, or Federal Courts one year prior to employment with the Yakama Nation
  • Must have no record of dependency actions, current ending or past in Tribal or Federal Courts
  • Completion of a certified Correctional Officers Training, at an accredited institution
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts
  • Must understand the position and working conditions; and consider the impact on personal lifestyle and family
  • Required to sign a code of conduct and understand sanctions for misconduct
  • Required to maintain Basic First Aid and CPR card
  • Required to maintain Food Handler's card
  • Required to wear a department-issued uniform
  • Required to take an annual Physical and PEB training
  • Must be able to type/keyboard a minimum of 35 words per minute (WPM)
  • Required to pass criminal background check; finger printing criminal record and driving record
  • Required to pass a pre-employment background check
  • Required to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit
