Job Summary
Assist coaches and instruct swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared practices and workouts accordingly. Build effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; encourage parent involvement and identify potential volunteers. Convey information on the swim team, aquatics programs and schedules. Attend practices and swim meets as required. Actively support the organization's DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work. Maintain records as required (i.e. attendance, swim meet reports, etc.). Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary. Organize and put away needed swim team equipment. Report damaged equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age of 15
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
- AED certification
- Basic First Aid certification
- Emergency Oxygen certification
- Knowledge of competitive strokes and techniques
- Knowledge of competitive swimming
- Knowledge of general water safety
- Commitment to support and further anti-racist work as an organization
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique
- Ability to lift equipment
Desired Qualifications
- USA Swim Coach certifications
- Current Lifeguard Training Certification
- Safety Training for Swim Coaches
