Job Summary
Perform structural analysis and design of new and existing buildings under supervision, including gravity and lateral systems, foundations, and components made of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood. Develop structural drawings, specifications, calculations, and design documentation using site observations, geotechnical reports, and project data while coordinating with architectural, civil, and mechanical disciplines. Execute engineering calculations and structural modeling software to evaluate loads and design members in accordance with building codes and design standards. Participate in site visits for existing condition documentation, progress reviews, and submittal responses, completing required safety and project-specific training. Work in Denver, Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, or Virginia Beach with occasional travel, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and safety policies.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or equivalent
- 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience
- Excellent research skills with analytical mindset
- Familiarity with structural building codes and design standards
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
- Familiarity with structural design and modeling software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RISA-3D, RAM Concept, SAFE, Revit, and AutoCAD
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
- The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately
Desired Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training certification, or ability to obtain within a reasonable period after hire
- Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline
- A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations
