Job Summary
Junior Steel Estimator to support estimating for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and joists/deck projects. Responsibilities include performing detailed quantity takeoffs for structural steel components (beams, columns, trusses) and miscellaneous metals (stairs, railings, ladders, platforms), reviewing architectural and structural drawings, specifications and bid documents to identify scope, assisting with project estimates by analyzing labor, material, equipment, fabrication, and subcontractor costs, coordinating with material suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and lead times, compiling bid packages for accurate pricing and proposal development, maintaining estimating databases and historical cost records, conducting occasional site visits to verify dimensions and conditions, supporting continuous improvement in estimating accuracy and workflow, and collaborating with engineering, operations, and estimating teams throughout the bidding process.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent field experience
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, joists, decking, or related construction scopes
- Familiarity with takeoff software such as Bluebeam Revu
- Basic understanding of AISC standards, structural steel fabrication, and common metal fabrication processes
- Strong mathematical aptitude, including the ability to calculate material weights, surface areas, and volumes
- Ability to review construction drawings and identify scope requirements accurately
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify omissions, discrepancies, and hidden scope items within complex drawing packages
