Job Summary

Junior Public Information Office (PIO) Specialist embedded with FDOT District 4 Communications Office. Supports public communication efforts, customer engagement, virtual public meetings, social media content, and transportation information dissemination to communities throughout District 4. Responsibilities include responding to inquiries, coordinating virtual meetings (Microsoft Teams and similar platforms), maintaining communication assets, publishing public meeting notices on agency websites and social media, drafting social media content and visual materials, researching transportation news and media coverage, assisting with mailing lists and administrative communications, supporting outreach initiatives for district priorities, and maintaining professional interactions with stakeholders and internal teams. In-person, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 40-hour work week.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years of education and/or experience in: Communications - Marketing - Journalism - Public Relations - Public Information
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant post-secondary education preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, grammar, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to remain professional and effective under pressure
  • Technical skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, webinar platforms, SharePoint, social media platforms and content publishing tools, photo editing and PDF editing software, video recording and editing software/equipment, digital communications tools and online publishing platforms

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting public agencies or government communications
  • Experience coordinating public meetings and stakeholder communications
  • Knowledge of social media content development and visual communications
  • Experience managing communication assets and media resources
  • Familiarity with transportation or infrastructure communications is a plus
