Junior/Intermediate Structural Engineer

Job Summary
Intermediate Structural Engineer participates in the design of energy-industry projects from inception to completion. Responsibilities include developing the process design for a project or proposal, establishing design criteria and preparing specifications, drawings, models and bills of material; designing component parts and units; exercising cost/budget control; reviewing schedules and tracking engineering tasks; participating in design reviews; providing technical guidance to junior staff; reviewing quotations, drawings and specifications for technical adequacy; applying engineering techniques and analyses; ensuring compliance with Vista QMS and applicable codes; reviewing the work of others; preparing discipline inputs for cost estimates; stamping documentation as required; preparing load combinations based on codes; leveraging structural design tools such as RISA, S-FRAME/S-STEEL, SAP and 3D modeling; demonstrating knowledge of steel structures, concrete, piling, foundations; and collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams. The role requires a P.Eng with APEGA, a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) in engineering, and the ability to work in Calgary with potential site visits. Required Qualifications
- Four to ten years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the energy industry
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in engineering or applied science
- P.Eng. registration with APEGA
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
- Self-motivated and efficient with time management
- Familiarity of applicable codes and industry standards
- Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
