Job Summary
Conduct site data collection for water quality and flow, and perform site visits and inspections within South Africa and globally. Develop and interpret flood inundation models, water balance models, and water quality models to support surface water assessments. Draft high-quality technical reports and provide input on water components for EIA's and mine waste management projects. Assist senior engineers with proposal development, project management, and client correspondence while maintaining health and safety leadership standards.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in hydrology (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated interest and experience in hydrological and hydraulic modelling
- Project-based experience using HEC-RAS software
- Understanding of surface water management principles and associated legislation, standards, and guidelines
- Ability to work and produce deliverables with minimal supervision
- Sound writing and communication skills
- Ability to deliver projects within budget and schedule
- Proficient in MS Office programs
- Good judgement
- Valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications
- A masters-level degree or higher
- 2 or more years' experience in the consulting industry
- Professional registration with a governing body (i.e., SACNASP or ECSA)
- Experience in the following fields and the ability to work independently there-in: Climatology, water balance modelling, surface water impact assessments, regulatory requirements in the water management space in South Africa, water quality analysis
- Experience or interest in working with some of the following tools/software packages: GIS, GoldSim, HEC-HMS, Tuflow, Coding (i.e. R/Python), PCSWMM, EPASWMM
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
