Job Summary

A Junior Environmental Scientist participates as a member of an emergency response team to conduct environmental sampling and data collection. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing samples from air, soil, water and other sources, performing monitoring and sampling according to prescribed methods, and compiling and summarizing scientific data and literature. The role requires immediate availability for extended travel and emergency response at client requests, maintaining PPE and appropriate work clothing, and an on-call rotation. The position includes frequent, extended travel and may involve deployment to satellite offices. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a related science, 1-3 years of experience or equivalent, HAZWOPER training within three weeks, DISA and TWIC clearances within three months, OSHA-related training, a valid driver’s license and passport, and strong written and verbal English communication. The candidate must be able to work overtime and weekends and be comfortable with long hours in PPE in varied environmental conditions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Toxicology or other related science
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a related field may be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • Completion of 40-hour HAZWOPER training in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120 within first three weeks of hire date
  • Possession of DISA & TWIC clearances within 3 months of hire date
  • Completion of all designated safety requirements within first month of hire date
  • Current driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain a passport
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel frequently and for extended periods
  • Proficiency with Windows-based computer software
  • Ability to learn and use various software and manage administrative duties
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a matrix organization
