Junior Environmental Scientist

Job Summary
Conduct file reviews, site inspections, and literature searches to prepare Environmental Site Assessments, regulatory applications, and technical reports. Develop work plans, cost estimates, and risk-based site management strategies while engaging with the risk assessment team. Plan and execute field programs for groundwater and remediation projects, managing contractor implementations and tracking expenses, activities, and health and safety. Compile field data, interpret laboratory results, and organize deliverables under senior staff guidance. This role involves a 70% field/30% office split with travel to industrial or remote locations, including occasional overnight stays and evening shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Directly applicable post secondary education /bachelor's degree
- Experience in environmental sciences
- Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization
- Eligible to possess a valid, Class 5 Drivers license
- Ability to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol, and fitness testing
- Willingness to apply known principles in a different regulatory setting or framework
- Understanding of the upstream and downstream oil & gas industry, and oil sands industry and commercial/industrial/brownfields environmental industry
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary setting
- Ability to work either independently or as a part of a team interacting with other team members and contractors
- Able to meet deadlines and complete work in a fast paced setting and with multiple functions
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail; task oriented
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
- Excellent safety attitude
- Good oral and electronic communication skills
- Ability to at times sustain long hours of work
- Ability to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, kneel, crawl, reach and grasp, push and pull objects, lift and/or move up to 30 lb, sometimes over the shoulders, repetitive bending and lifting of items, along with repetitive arm movements
- Ability to work varying shifts, including the occasional evening and night

- Site visits may include industrial, mining, or other remote locations
- Field work may include carrying equipment and overnight stays in rural areas

- Occasional interruptions outside work hours

Desired Qualifications
- Preferred familiarity in an environmental consulting industry for minimum 2 years
- Familiarity with the environmental site assessment process and environmental industry's best practices
- Understanding of the Saskatchewan Environmental Code and Alberta Tier 1 and Tier 2 Risk Assessment guidance documents and/or equivalent documents from other jurisdictions as required
