Junior Coatings Scientist PECVD / DLC

Job Summary
Junior Coatings Scientist needed to join an advanced materials development team to assist with the development, optimization, and scale-up of PECVD processes for Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coatings. Provide support across equipment commissioning, system validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), process development, and analytical characterization of thin-film coatings. Work closely with a Senior Scientist to design, run, and optimize PECVD coating recipes, document validation metrics and process parameters, troubleshoot hardware during commissioning, and contribute to baseline maintenance of new deposition systems. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM field, strong materials science knowledge, hands-on experience with vacuum systems and high-power electronics, and meticulous data collection and technical documentation. Preferred experience includes vacuum technology or plasma processing exposure; a mentorship-focused, fast-paced R&D environment is offered in Tucson, AZ.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related STEM discipline
- Hands-on Aptitude: Comfort working around mechanical hardware, vacuum systems, gas delivery lines, or high-power electronics
- Analytical Mindset: Excellent data collection and documentation habits; proficiency with technical writing and data analysis
- Strong foundational understanding of materials characterization, surface science, and thin-film concepts
- Methodical Execution: following strict equipment startup sequences, validation checklists, safety protocols
