Job Summary
The District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission announces one vacancy on the board that will nominate and recommend candidates for DC courts. The President nominates from a list recommended by the Commission, with Senate advice and consent, to appoint all judges of the DC courts. The Commission consists of seven members with staggered six-year terms (plus variations for some initial terms). Appointees are designated by the Mayor, the Board of Governors of the DC Bar, the Council, the President, and the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for DC. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens, District of Columbia residents, and not employed by legislative or executive/military departments or the DC or federal judiciary. - Bona fide resident of the District of Columbia for at least 90 days prior to appointment
- not an officer or employee of the legislative or executive or military departments or agencies of the United States; not an officer or employee of the judicial branch or the District of Columbia government (including its judicial branch)
- appointment to the District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission board requires compliance with residency and professional eligibility criteria as outlined in the description.
