Job Summary
Develop and implement MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs, performing analyses, evaluation, and verification across integrated product teams. Assess engineering hardware, mechanical, and electrical drawings for fault tolerance and latent hazards while designing testable safety requirements. Coordinate with customer safety representatives to clarify system requirements for software, hardware, and test personnel, and collaborate with program management and government authorities from startup through disposal. Prepare safety assessment reports, program briefs, and internal documentation for customer approval, briefing safety at technical reviews. Interpret system requirements and military standards to ensure design and architecture considerations are appropriately allocated.
Required Qualifications
- Interim or active DOD secret clearance
- Developing and implementing one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs
- Performing MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses
- Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls
- Coordinating with customer safety representatives applying methods, standards, and techniques to provide clarification of system requirements to software, hardware, and test personnel
- An analysis of engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance
- Work with system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to ensure the proper administrative system safety controls are in place
- Design of concise, testable safety requirements or providing safety analysis of existing requirements
- Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
- Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
- Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
- Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
- Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
- Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
