Job Summary
Journeyman Mechanic at Windsor Salt’s Ojibway Mine in Windsor, Ontario. Responsible for maintaining stationary and mobile industrial machinery in a fast-paced environment, with assignments to surface (mill or maintenance shop) or underground. Duties include operating mining equipment, lubricating systems, completing reports, coordinating with peers and supervisors, supporting hoist/shaft work, troubleshooting hydraulic/pneumatic/electrical systems, reading schematics, utilizing CMMS, installing systems, training staff, and maintaining a safe, clean workplace. Must hold a Skilled Trades Ontario certificate (421A or 310T) and a Class A Mechanic license (421T or 310T), be able to work across three shifts, and be prepared for a background check and medical/audio exam. The facility is unionized (Unifor Local 1959) and accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Proof of completion of an accredited Skilled Trades Ontario program (e.g., 421A - Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, 310T - Truck and Coach Technician)
- Class A Mechanic (421T or 310T) required
- At least 3 years of experience in a mechanic position, preferred
- Must be familiar with the Lock Out/Tag Out policy and procedures
- Must be proficient in hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair
- Proficient in low-voltage electrical systems and cutting and grinding tasks
- Must be skilled in diesel engine troubleshooting and repair
- Must be proficient in welding and cutting
- Must be proficient in reading and working from fabrication drawings, hydraulic prints, and schematics, and automotive-type low-voltage electrical schematics
- Must have working knowledge of crushers, screeners, and conveyors
- Have knowledge of power transmission and alignment procedures
- Welding certification or experience is an asset
- Class A Mechanic (421T or 310T) required
- Windsor Salt does not require Canadian work experience and does not use artificial intelligence (AI) to screen or assess applicants

- Experience with CMMS systems (e.g., CAT ET, Windows, SMAG, GHH)
- Knowledge of crushers, screeners, and conveyors
- Lock Out/Tag Out procedures knowledge
- Welding certification or experience an asset
- Ability to work across surface/mill, maintenance shop, and underground environments
- Background check and medical/audio exam required on offer
- Unionized facility experience (Unifor Local 1959)
- Ability to work shifts (days/afternoons/midnights) and overtime as required
