Job Summary
Journeyman Mechanic at Windsor Salt’s Ojibway Mine in Windsor, Ontario. Maintain stationary and mobile industrial machinery and equipment in a fast-paced environment, with assignments on surface or underground. Operate mining equipment, troubleshoot hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems, read and utilize schematics and fabrication drawings, use CMMS, install components, train coworkers, and ensure safe, hazard-free operations. Work across multiple shifts (days/afternoons/nights) with overtime as required; pre-employment background check and medical/audio exam; unionized facility with mandatory union membership upon start.
Required Qualifications
- Proof of completion of an accredited Skilled Trades Ontario program (e.g., 421A - Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, 310T - Truck and Coach Technician)
- At least 3 years of experience in a mechanic position
- Must be familiar with Lock Out/Tag Out policy and procedures
- Proficient in hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair
- Proficient in low-voltage electrical systems and cutting and grinding tasks
- Must be skilled in diesel engine troubleshooting and repair
- Proficient in welding and cutting
- Proficient in reading and working from fabrication drawings, hydraulic prints, and schematics, and automotive-type low-voltage electrical schematics
- Must be proficient in diagnosing machine malfunctions, adjusting, disassembling mechanical sub-assemblies, replacing worn parts, and reassembling
- Working knowledge of crushers, screeners, conveyors, and power transmission/ alignment procedures
- Class A Mechanic (421T or 310T) required
- Welding certification or experience is an asset
