Job Summary

Advanced Tree Trimmer (Line Clearance) is a union-referred role responsible for pruning and removing trees, limbs, and shrubs away from power lines to reduce vegetation interference. The role uses climbing gear and equipment (powered trimmer lift truck, safety belt, climbing line, ladder) and works aloft and on the ground with hand tools (saws, pruners). Responsibilities include loading vehicles, felling and trimming trees, rigging and lowering debris, applying herbicides, supervising less-experienced staff near energized conductors, maintaining application records, enforcing safety procedures per OSHA and ANSI standards, performing vehicle/equipment inspections, and responding to emergencies or storms. It requires knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards, understanding electrical circuits and safety around energized parts, and the ability to obtain necessary licenses and certifications (e.g., driver’s license, DOT medical card). The role may involve overtime and extensive travel; bilingual capability is noted; union benefits and on-the-job training are offered.

Required Qualifications

  • Has a minimum of 1 year of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews or has completed applicable skills assessments
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required
  • Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and DOT medical card (FMCSA regulations)
  • Possesses ability to read and interpret safety instructions and to communicate effectively in English (Spanish capability noted)
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910.269) and ANSI/ARB standards (Z133.1, A300)
  • Ability to operate and service tools and equipment; willingness to perform overtime and call-out work
  • Ability to wear PPE and work near energized conductors
  • Ability to supervise non-qualified employees in proximity to energized conductors
  • Experience with herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by local law
  • Must be able to pass a safety and skills evaluation
  • Eligible for union-referred position and participate in on-the-job training and overtime benefits
