Job Summary
Interpret blueprints, schematics, and piping diagrams to determine layout and installation procedures for HVAC systems. Cut, thread, groove, weld, and braze pipes using hand and power tools, then install and connect piping systems to equipment such as chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and pumps. Test systems for leaks using pressure gauges and diagnostic tools while collaborating with other trades to ensure coordinated installation. Troubleshoot and repair piping systems as needed, maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used, and adhere to safety protocols and OSHA regulations at all times. This role requires a valid Local 533 Journeyman Pipefitter license, OSHA 30 Training, and proficiency in reading mechanical drawings and working with various piping materials.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Local 533 Journeyman Pipefitter license or certification
- OSHA 30 Training
- Minimum of 4–5 years of experience in HVAC piping systems
- Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and specifications
- Skilled in various piping materials (e.g., copper, steel, PVC) and joining methods
- Familiarity with HVAC systems including chilled water, condenser water, steam, and hydronic heating
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and perform manual labor
- High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years of HVAC level operation, maintenance & repair experience in the HVAC and refrigeration trade
- Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques, electrical circuits and wiring, operating principles of motors, and local electrical codes
- Communicate effectively with internal team and customers
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Diagnose and resolve problems, follow written and verbal instructions, read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material, and perform math
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Valid driver's license
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other HVAC equipment
- Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently
- Must be able to stoop, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
