Journeyman Carpenter

Job Summary
Alter, install, and repair walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, doors, and windows throughout the North Texas VA Medical Center campus. Construct drywall partitions, temporary wood structures, and acoustical ceilings. Install windows, doors, and furniture such as cabinets, tables, and shelving. Build forms for concrete sidewalks and curbs. Work with Formica, laminate, and paneling. Check daily with the VA Contracting Officer Representative for assignments and submit progress reports, daily timecards, and maintenance logs. Shifts run Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, with schedules subject to change. OSHA certification and VA safety training are required.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizen
- OSHA Certification
- Attend VA safety and orientation training before beginning work
- Wear required PPE, including OSHA-approved steel-toe boots
- Wear long pants and long-sleeve shirts (arc-rated or natural fiber)
- Wear hearing protection
- Wear eye protection
- Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform as a Carpenter
- Work full-time, 80 hours per pay period
- Pass VA background check
- Wear VA-issued identification badge
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
- Lift up to 20 lbs
- Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
