Job Summary
Read production bills of material, structural drawings, and steel erection drawings to produce accurate shop orders. Perform data entry and design of open web steel joists and steel decking in a proprietary design program, then prepare shop orders and details for production. Check designs and shop orders for other designers while handling multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. Meet schedules for assigned projects and perform other duties as assigned. This role requires willingness to work 50+ hours/week during busy seasons.
Required Qualifications
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills
- Basic understanding in geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to visualize how elements fit together in 3D when working with 2D drawings
- Willingness to go beyond typical duties to assist co-workers and customers
- Willing and able to work 50+ hours/week during busy seasons
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience in the steel joist industry is a plus
- Design related degree with knowledge of statics and materials is a plus
