Job Summary
Business Facilitator – Development Planning serves as a central contact and “business ambassador” to assist new and growing businesses through the development approvals process. Reports to the Manager of Development Planning and collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to streamline development approvals, provide mediation on complex issues, and advocate for improved processes and customer-focused service. Responsibilities include liaising with applicants, residents, city departments, officials and external agencies; coordinating and advising on development approvals; designing and implementing procedures to improve the development planning process; serving as public relations lead for Development Planning; preparing reports for Standing Committee and Council on complex applications; mentoring staff, training across the division, and supporting city-wide business improvements; conducting site inspections; and presenting evidence at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings. Required qualifications emphasize a degree in land use planning, strong communication and analytical skills, conflict resolution, customer service excellence, and knowledge of development application processes; experience with Ontario Land Tribunal and membership in CI Planning are assets.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Land Use Planning or a directly related field with a minimum of five years of professional experience in land use development, review and implementation, or extensive years of demonstrated experience and credentials in development planning/real estate matters/business approvals
- Conflict resolution and mediation skills
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service and public relations
- Ability to plan, assign and co-ordinate the work of subordinates in a work team environment
- Some supervisory experience would be desirable
- Knowledge of the corporate organizational structure; “who does what”
- A high level of skill in research, problem solving, verbal and written communications, and interpersonal relations
- Excellent analytical abilities with a thorough knowledge of analytical research methodologies and computerized analytical techniques
- Excellent writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to express ideas effectively through formal presentations
- Working knowledge of development application processes
- Experience before the Ontario Land Tribunal would be an asset
- Full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners would be an asset
