Job Summary
Tenure-track faculty position for an Assistant or Associate Professor to teach in the Bachelor of Social Work program at Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops. The role emphasizes Black, Indigenous, and racialized (BIR) perspectives, decolonizing and anti-racist social work education, curriculum development, student mentorship (including Indigenous and equity-denied students), program and faculty service, and pursuing an active research agenda aligned with the candidate’s interests. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service with expectations to advance social justice, relational and anti-oppressive practice, and community engagement, on a campus situated on Secwepemcúlecw in Kamloops, BC. The position is designated for BIR scholars and seeks expertise in anti-racist and decolonizing social work practice, Africentric approaches, Indigenous and racialized perspectives, and related policy areas. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026, with teaching duties primarily at the Kamloops campus.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in social work or a discipline relevant to social work with a graduate degree in social work from an accredited institution
- Five or more years (full-time equivalent) of social work practice experience grounded in relational and anti-oppressive approaches
- Minimum of 2-years’ (full-time equivalent) post-secondary teaching experience
- Demonstrated ability to commit to reconciliation and anti-oppressive education
- Registration or eligibility to register with BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW)
- Experience developing culturally appropriate curricula
- Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods
