Job Summary
Tenure-track Teaching Professor (Assistant or Associate) to teach in the Human Service Diploma program at Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops campus. The role emphasizes Indigenous perspectives, Indigenous knowledge, and Two-Eyed Seeing, with responsibilities including teaching human service diploma courses, curriculum and program development reflecting Indigenous knowledges and community-responsive practices, mentoring students (including Indigenous students and those from equity-denied communities), attending program/department/faculty meetings, and engaging in scholarly or practice-based activities aligned with the candidate’s expertise and interests. The appointment supports TRU’s commitments to decolonization, reconciliation, and safeguarding Indigenous education, and requires self-identification as Indigenous in the application.
Required Qualifications
- Hold a graduate degree in social work or child and youth care
- Five or more years of social work or child and youth care practice experience grounded in relational and anti-oppressive approaches
- Experience teaching entry-level students in post-secondary, adult education, or practice-based settings
- Demonstrated experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods
- Proven skills in intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect
- Experience developing culturally appropriate curricula
- Indigenous lived experience and involvement with Indigenous communities
- Ability to support Indigenous students and equity-denied communities
- Commitment to reconciliation, anti-oppression, anti-racist, and decolonizing education
- Self-identification as Indigenous in application materials
