Job Description Associate Director, Energy Consulting

Job Summary
Lead energy efficiency, electrification, and distributed energy resources studies, program planning, and regulatory support for US and Canadian utilities and government agencies. Develop solutions for dispatch strategies, market adoption curves, and innovative DER program strategies while conducting advanced economic analyses for residential and commercial sectors. Manage large datasets, prepare persuasive reports and client deliverables, and co-author white papers and journal articles. Oversee business development activities, including proposal writing, and evaluate program performance through benchmarking. This role requires 8+ years of energy industry experience and the ability to lead a team of direct reports. Based in Toronto or Ottawa, this position offers competitive compensation and benefits including tuition reimbursement and 401k matching.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
- demonstrated interest and in sustainability, building energy efficiency, building science, and/or renewables, or related subjects
- 8+ years of related energy industry experience
- academic equivalent that includes experience in energy consulting, energy management, building science, DSM program potential studies, regulatory support, DSM program design, and/or program implementation
- Demonstrated experience with project and resource management
Desired Qualifications
- Graduate degree in engineering
- specializing in electrical engineering, building science, and/or energy policy
- In depth understanding of DER technologies adoption curves including Bass Diffusion curves, program benchmarking, and calibration
- In depth understanding of energy efficiency technologies, economic valuation (NPV, IRR, etc.), and utility cost-effectiveness tests
- Knowledge of energy policy and regulation, especially related to DSM and other distributed energy resources
- Experience and knowledge of renewables, US and Canadian energy codes (IECC, ASHRAE), energy storage systems and/or CHP, energy modeling (OpenStudio, EnergyPlus, etc), and/or energy saving calculation methods
- Understanding of building science, building construction methods, and building energy saving calculations
- Experience in regulatory and public stakeholder processes
- Demonstrated experience with business development and nurturing client relationships
- Demonstrated experience managing and leading a team of at least two direct reports
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to identify, collect and analyze data
- Strong writing and communication skills, ensuring clear expression of ideas and effectively providing information to stakeholders
- Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
